Rally teams complain at length about driving their super-cars covered in required event stickers. Not for the painstaking work required to remove them, like you might think, but rather, on several occasions, police have pulled someone over only to blankly ask if the car is street legal? Participants have to bite their tongue and not say any of the following:
1.) The plates are off my sister’s Hyundai, but I thought I’d put ‘em on this non-legal beast and take ‘er for a spin.
2). You’re right, and the number on my door is how many times I’ve gone to jail for driving this thing on the road.
3).Not sure. You’ll have to talk to my pit crew at the next exit.
4). Actually, every time I get a ding or scratch I cover it with a sticker. Pretty good idea huh?
5). Obviously I’m on a covert mission for Homeland Security, and you best not detain me.
6). This is a prototype for next year’s model, and it’s disguised as a NASCAR during testing.
7). We just wanted to see if the police were awake… and you are… so (rolling up window) I’ll head back now to share the news with the team.

Don’t expect future rallies to go sticker-less. Sponsor logos and branding are critical to the events cool factor, and the sacrifice-bunt made by those sitting on the shoulder with a police cruiser behind them – even they are doing a PR favor for the event too.
